Enthusiastic energy flowed through Zydeco Downtown in Raleigh’s City Market as over 70 Triangle residents gathered to Kick Off the Barack Obama Presidential Campaign. Guests were welcomed at the door with smiling faces and seemed to feel at home right away. Zydeco had the bar open and offered a menu including a nice variety of appetizers and Antwan’s Wings (which happen to be the best wings I have ever tasted). Owner Antwan Harris and his staff were extremely helpful in making this a successful event. As a Steering Committee member and Meeting Committee Organizer, I opened the event. I asked my father, Harold Albrecht to stand. He was sporting the group's Barack and Roll t-shirt. While introducing him, I shared that my father is a registered Republican but was the very first person to purchase one of the shirts. The guests gave my dad a fun-loving round of applause.
Then we all watched an inspiring message from Michelle Obama which included a history of her relationship with Barack Obama and a description of both their childhoods. The highlight of the event was watching Obama’s live web cast. The webcast portion of the event had some technical difficulties, but the guests were very patient and understanding. Testimonials from Steering Committee Member Geoff Williams (Political Endorsement), Raye Palmer (Meeting Committee Member), and Kimberly Watson (Group Organizer) inspired and informed the guests. The event closed with a Drawing for the Breakfast with Obama Raffle. A very nice gentleman named Jim won the raffle and on April 13th he will be having breakfast with Barack Obama in Charlotte, NC. The group raised $550.00 for the Barack Obama Campaign. On Saturday March 31st, Triangle for Obama witnessed a successful event which left us feeling optimistic and charged.
Special Thanks:
- John Parker, who organized the Breakfast with Obama raffle
- Zydeco Downtown staff and owner Antwan Harris.
- Hugh Schnitzius from Asheville (WNC for Obama) for use of their banner and bumper stickers
